The 1935 “Otrzęsiny” Artistic Event of the Society of Friends of Academic Youth
Abstract
The aim of this article is to present details of an event called Otrzęsiny (student initiation rites), which took place in Kraków in June 1935 on the initiative of the Society of Friends of Academic Youth. The text examines the reasons for its organization and the preparations undertaken for the artistic and technical realization of the project. It also analyzes the extent to which the intended objectives were achieved and reconstructs the course of the event itself. This study contributes to a discussion of the distinctive character of this initiative in comparison with other forms of student celebrations known today.
