L. Brouwer’s Intuitionism
Sources, Development, and the Contribution by Polish Logicians
Abstract
The article is devoted to L.E.J. Brouwer’s intuitionistic logic. It discusses the origins and objectives of this logic, which was one of the constructivist trends in the philosophy of mathematics. The logic was intended to resolve the crisis of the foundations of mathematics. The article also covers the primary stages of its development, including the work of A. Heyting and K. Gӧdel. Additionally, it emphasizes the significance of research conducted by Polish logicians, such as Z. Zawirski, J. Łukasiewicz, A. Tarski, and S. Jaśkowski. The article’s conclusions. Which are justified on the basis of historical findings, are also important for metaphilosophical discussions about understanding mathematics and the basic laws of logic. These discussions also address the relationship between language and reality.
