Activities of the People’s National Union Deputies from the Kielce Province in the Legislative Sejm (1919-1922)
Abstract
In January 1919, elections to the Legislative Sejm were held in the reborn Poland. The result of the Sejm’s work was the adoption of the Constitution in March 1921, as well as many resolutions, including: on land reform. The largest right-wing force in the Sejm was the National Democracy, gathered in the Popular National Union (ZLN), which transformed from a parliamentary club into a political party in 1919. The aim of the article is to describe and analyze the participation of ZLN deputies elected from the Kielce Voivodeship in the work of the Legislative Sejm. The source basis of the issue are stenographic reports from the sessions of the Sejm. The profiles of four parliamentarians are discussed: Konstanty Kowalewski, Franciszek Mazur, Witold Poklewski-Koziełł, and Zygmunt Seyda. They represented various social classes. Their engagement in the work of the Constituent Assembly varied, but all endeavored to represent the ZLN parliamentary club in solidarity. Seyda, a lawyer from Greater Poland, was the most active among them.
