Lobbying Potential of the Polish Americans

Keywords: Polish Americans, ethnic lobbies, interest groups in the US, lobbying

Abstract

In this article the author considers whether the Polish Americans (Polonia) living in the US is, or perhaps can be, a potentially significant lobbying force influencing the shape of American policy, mainly in relation to Polish and Polish‑American issues. This consideration is based on an analysis of the phenomenon of lobbying in the United States and the importance of interest groups, including ethnic groups. Basing assumptions on the literature on American interest groups, including ethnic ones, and their lobbying potential, the author identifies factors and circumstances that can affect the potential effectiveness of interest groups in the US and relates them to the situation of the community of Americans of Polish origin.
