Abstract

At the beginning of the XX century, the German economist, Father Heinrich Pesch SJ, developed an original economic system, based on the idea of solidarism, and meant to provide an alternative to both free market liberalism and statist socialism. His social system of labour was aimed at implementing the Christian principles in the fields of social life and economics. The ideas of Pesch had the greatest impact indirectly, via his disciples, on the development of the social teachings of the Church. However, his contributions to economics, despite their importance, have received less recognition. The aim of this article is to introduce the person of Heinrich Pesch, the circle of his disciples, and their legacy with special focus on economic sciences.
