The Unsafe City. The Urbicide of our Global Era
Abstract
This text offers an understanding of the city based on the situations of insecurity experienced in urban spaces. With demographic acceleration and the interconnection of spaces, it is evident that insecurity appears as both an obvious and latent problem in most cities around the world. This is described in the following text using a consistent paradigmatic and comparative method, which attempts to find similarities between acts of insecurity and the dynamics of urban life. In this manner, it can be argued that insecurity acts as an urbicide factor, which undermines the possibility of inhabiting human spaces in the face of unequal urban development. In this vein, the text proposes that different conceptions of security can simultaneously generate different notions of the city.
