Abstract

This article proposes the concept of a new form of literary narrative, called performative narrative, which is derived from stage presentation - one of the two basic types of storytelling previously proposed by Otto Ludwig. This type of narrative showed up as a result of functioning contemporary literature in audiovisual culture and digital media communication.

The article discusses the features of performative narrative, such as: changing the ontic status of the reader, achieving the immersion effect and programming the text recipient. The article also describes the tools used by performative narrative. These include: the poetics of audiovisual arts, elements of performance, video games and linguistic manipulation. Internal and external literary factors that influenced the formation of this narrative were also indicated and discussed. The conclusions from the conducted research allow us to hypothesize that contemporary prose develops its own type of narrative, based on the fluidity of the genre features of cultural texts, the pursuit of convergence and the interpenetration of semiotic systems used by specific media. The issue I examined also presents an interesting perspective on the further development of literature, shaped by the culture of participation, interactivity and audiovisual texts.
